Art & Design
John Hampton has been involved in the art and photography world for more than 30 years. During that time, he worked in many aspects of the art world primarily in photography. He has worked in various fields as a technical and public relations photographer and has owned and operated two businesses which taught photography. He attended and graduated from Weber State University with a Bachelor's degree in Art, with an emphasis in photography.
During his college years, he worked for a commercial photographer in Salt Lake City, Utah, as a printer and lab assistant, where he learned many “tricks of the trade” and gained valuable experience. He has worked as a technical and public relations photographer for Hercules Aerospace, “chasing rockets and/or politicians.” He has offered a variety of photography classes through the Eccles Community Arts Center where he continues to teach on occasion. For three years, he held the contract and taught Digital Photography at Hill Air Force Base, which was one of the most popular classes offered there.
Mr. Hampton entered the full time education world by substitute teaching at a boy’s school, Ogden Preparatory Academy, which led to a position as a teaching assistant in Special Education. He eventually was asked to teach photography 1&2, graphic design, year book, and intro to 2-D animation to 7th, 8th, and 9th graders.
He joined LPA last year as the Art teacher, teaching Foundations, Drawing, Painting, 3-D Design and 2-D Animation. He’s having a blast working with all the kids!
Mr. Hampton and his wife have two sons, a dog, and live in Ogden, Utah.
